Today NY Times headline reads "In Surprise, Nobel Peace Prize to Obama for Diplomacy"
I have to admit I'm very confused. Not upset, just confused. The article mitigates that a bit, but still...
What do you all think?

As an african american I think this is a setback. Mainly people are giving him this prize because he is a celebrity not because of what he has done. The people who gave him the award wanted to be viewed as progressive and not racist. In the end they just made a mockary of everything the Nobel prize stands for. They couldn't wait one year to give it to him? Martin Luther King would be slapping his face saying "Know one is paying attention to the content of a person's character anymore."
I worry too that President Obama hasn't had a chance to truly prove himself yet and that this award is jumping the gun and setting him up for a much greater, more humiliating failure should his plans for peace and diplomacy in the Middle East not come to fruition in the near future. Not to say he isn't deserving, but rather that putting him up on a pedestal this early sets him up for a bigger fall should it come.
